In the previous year, it became host to a concert site on the N.Y. Water Taxi Beach. It is an adventure to get to and from Governors Island. This island is open, wide, and available via ferry through October 11; on Friday through Sunday from the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan; from Brooklyn via the NY Water Taxi on Fridays; and a free ferryboat on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are interested to see everything around the island then you should go for bike riding. The land is flat and automobiles are strictly forbidden on the island. With quite less herding required for the kids it could be an easy ride.

The island has a free mini-golf, which is renewed every year. There are parks, crafts and sculpture parks for children. Few of the palaces are opened to visitors with paintings and sculptures on exposure. There are hills, perfect for rocking down. There are old munitions and children cannot refuse climbing on top of it. You need to park your vehicles in the mansion veranda for a picnic, and enjoy watching the water and the landscapes.

There is no potable water available on the island and you need to take water in bottles. If you visit the island with complete preparation then you can explore the deserted buildings, a prison, grassy knolls and a mansion. On Fridays, you can enjoy a free bike riding. Since on every Friday there is a Free Bike Fridays, in which you can explore more than 5 miles of car-free biking.

Ellis Island--The Best Island Attraction of NYC

New York City has a multitude of attractions and natural landmarks that area real feast to the artistic mind and a treat for the eye. So many like islands locations exist, the best out of these is the Ellis Island. It is most dazzling island that is named after a Manhattan merchant Samuel Ellis, who owned it in 1770. The island is situated in Upper New York Bay, which is formerly known as the United States principal immigration reception centre.

The island is about 1300 feet east of the New Jersey shore, and 1 mile southwest of Manhattan Island. It covers an area of 27 acres. In 1808, New York sold this island to the federal government, and it was used as a fort and powder magazine. From 1892 to 1924, it became the nation’s major immigration station. During this period, approximately 17 million immigrants passed through the Ellis Island, for this they were checked by the authorities of immigration and then were able to go into United States of America. In 1943, the immigration authorities had move its reception desk properly to New York City, till 1954 Island persistently served and perform the duty as custody place for exiles and foreigners. In 1965, this Island became the component of Statue of Liberty National Monument beside close Liberty Island and once again opened for tourists by National Park Service in 1979. In 1980s, the additional components and the core building of the island were reconstructed.  However, in the year of 1990 the building and the island was opened for the tourists as the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.

New Jersey has the authorization of the Island but conventionally it had been regarded as the core part of the New York City, and this issue has become conflict amongst the two cities that is New Jersey and NYC over a long period. According to a contract or agreement in 1834 amid the NYC and New Jersey gave the control of 3.3-acre of Island to NYC.
